Ina Garten says never to invite people over to eat a dish you've never prepared before. It's good advice. If a soufflé is going to fall, or a chicken is going to dry out, or a recipe is going to go wrong in one of the myriad ways a recipe can go wrong, it's always going to be the moment you have a room full of hungry guests.
But I can't seem to resist breaking that rule over and over again with Ina's own recipes. They're just so reliably foolproof that you could tell me the Queen of England was coming to dinner, and I'd still feel comfortable making one of Ina's recipes for the first time. It's Ina Garten, what could go wrong? I'd think. (I imagine that happens to Meghan Markle all the time.)
